The Real Orbit Story!
Mike Gutierrez, the now retired owner of Orbit Rentals, Inc., began renting to homeowners in the tri-city areas of Whittier, Santa Fe Springs and Pico Rivera over 35 years ago. He often lent his personal tools to family and friends for years previous to founding Orbit. One day a friend joked that he should start renting his tools. After discussing this with friend Jack Lentz, the two became partners, and the rest, as it is said, is history.
Orbit Rentals Inc., started humbly in a 500 square Ft. building with Mike's tools, trailers and borrowed construction equipment. Orbit Rentals, Inc., grew and soon purchased the building, the next two lots, and eventually the entire 8700 block of Norwalk Boulevard. The inventory grew as well. While lawnmowers, chainsaws and augers, for the do-it-yourself/homeowner are still available to rent, Orbits inventory also includes equipment for business' and contractors such as lifts, generators, light towers and trucks, just to name a few.
In March 1986, Orbit Rentals, Inc., established a party rental center. With both divisions thriving on the same property, space became a valued commodity. The decision was made to find a new site for Orbit Party Rentals that would be close to the corporate office.
Now, passers-by may view seasonal changes and the latest trends in the brightly decorated display windows located at Orbit Party Rentals' new site at 12061 East Slauson Avenue in Santa Fe Springs. The window displays give customers ideas of what can be achieved through renting and a little imagination. Whether it be a romantic wedding, corporate event, or fundraising, Orbit Party Rentals has all the equipment you need such as canopy, lighting, staging, dance floors, tables and chairs, which are ready and waiting for you.
Although Mike has retired, his children are carrying on the family business. His son, Mitch Gutierrez, is CEO of Orbit and heads the equipment division on Norwalk Boulevard. His daughters, Rachel Kidder and Michelle Talavera lead the team in the party rental division located on Slauson Avenue.
"Our father," said Michelle, "showed us by example how to provide service that keeps clients coming back and we have kept his tradition."
Orbit Rentals Inc., is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. We are now closed on Sundays.
